Sorry for the delay in writing…so much has happened since our last post.
On Mother’s Day, Pop (Jessica’s dad), Grandma Lois (Jessica’s mom), Graham, and Jessica headed to a nursery called Bloomin’ Haus. (Eoin was visiting his mom, Matt, Linz and Liam in Louisiana.) One of the best parts of the trip was their petting zoo where we saw a one-day old donkey and fed the llamas. In the evening, we had a barbeque with my sister, Erika, and her family. It was a special day to be able to celebrate with my mom and my sister (since it was her first Mother’s day too.)
After Eoin came back from Louisiana, we met one of Jessica’s college friends and his wife (Franklin and Sachie) in New York City. This necessitated travel by train, subway and boat. Graham loved them all. We took the train from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station and met our friends there. After lunch, we took the subway to the Staten Island ferry terminal. We took the ferry to Staten Island and back; perhaps one of the best travel deals in the city, you can catch beautiful views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline for free. We finished up by walking around Times Square until our friends had to go for their dinner plans. Graham was a real trooper the whole day; he only fussed during lunch and at the very end of the train ride home. This trip gave me a great appreciation for urban moms. And, it gave me a great chance for Graham to hang out in his new Kozy Carrier – a baby carrier that I received for Mother’s Day from Eoin and Graham. The bad news is that we forgot the camera….the good news is that we didn’t forget the kid! We’re still getting the hang on the parent thing.
One of the more funny Graham moments happened yesterday…my folks were watching Kyleigh (my sister’s little girl). Grandma Lois gave Ky a teething biscuit. Just as soon as Grandma turned her back, the biscuit mysteriously appeared in Graham’s hand and quickly made it into his mouth. This was definitely a sign that our very own “Cookie Monster” was ready for solid food! We had been waiting for the six-month mark, so we decided to start a few days early. Graham had his first taste of solid food this evening (well, second, if you count the cookie as his first taste.) Eoin served Graham peas, and he got a few bites in. The faces Graham made were pretty humorous to us. We’re not sure if the faces were because he didn’t like them or if he didn’t like the texture, but we’ll try more peas again tomorrow.
Even though Graham is not walking or crawling, he does know how to work a room. He loves to roll all around the living room floor, and especially likes to hang out under the coffee table. His fine motor movements are getting better and he is able to reach out with intention (so he’s pretty good at clearing off the table if he’s sitting in your lap!) Graham is working on developing his voice; this has been slightly challenging as of late, as he likes to use his outdoor voice inside. If you can’t tell by the tone of our blog, we’re having a great time.
More excitement ahead…This weekend is Memorial Day and we’ll be going to the parade. And the following weekend, Grandpa Gary and Grandma Kathy are coming to visit from California. Yippee! We can’t wait.
Love to all!

- Matching Hats

- Peas Please!

- Mom, I’m not sure I like these…
I’m with you Graham, I vote for the cookies over the peas…Your daddy HATED peas, wonder why he would give you those for your first taste of food. But he likes cookies
I love you, and miss you lots.
